Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister OP Dhankar urged the farmers to diversify their crop cycle and adopt new concept of crop management and crop marketing management according to the demand of the market. The crop cycle should be diversified from rice and wheat to horticultural crops so as to save water and to get better prices for their diversified crops.
Dhankar was speaking in the brainstorming session of the Agriculture Ministers of the states, held under the chairmanship of Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, to realize the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of doubling the farmers income by 2022, at New Delhi today.
Dhankar said that the work done for the betterment of the farmers in Haryana during the last four-and-a-half years had never been done earlier. The present government has prepared plans for making farming risk free. He said that scheme for issuing Kisan Credit Card was started at the time of former Prime Minister, Late Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the crop loan interest rate has been reduced from 18 per cent to 2 per cent, and now the present Central and State Governments have further reduced the interest on crop loan to zero per cent.
He said that there is a proposal to soon implement the Mukhya Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in the state on the lines of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Apart from this, the State has progressed significantly in the market improvement. Haryana has performed better under the Fasal Bima Yojana and has achieved the top position in the country.
